General Manager
Eric received his BSc in computer science at Edinburgh University in 1979 and then studied at the California Institute of Technology, focusing on CAD and parallel processing. He joined Inmos in 1980 to build the CAD system that was used to develop the Transputer, a revolutionary new microprocessor featuring integrated communications.

In 1985 he co-founded Meiko Ltd to build massively parallel computers based first on the Transputer and latterly on Sparc using Elan/Elite, a low latency RDMA fabric developed in-house. He left Meiko in 1996 to work as an independent consultant and was engaged by Cluster File Systems in 2002 to work on the Lustre parallel file system, becoming Lead Engineer of the Lustre Group when Sun Microsystems acquired the company in 2007. In 2010 after Oracle acquired Sun, he co-founded Whamcloud Inc. to assure the continued development and support of Lustre as an Open Source GPL filesystem. Intel acquired Whamcloud in 2012, where Eric is now is Lead Architect of the High Performance Data Division, working on storage architectures for Exascale.
